Performance Analysis of IP Micro-mobility Handoff Protocols

چکیده
each handoff scheme, a simple analytical model is developed for the evaluation of two characteristic performance measures: the packet loss probability during handoff and the extra delay experienced by packets that are involved in the handoff. Application of these models allows a comparison of two important handoff schemes: the Multiple Stream Forwarding scheme of HAWAII and the Semi-soft Handoff scheme of Cellular IP.

Performance Analysis of IP Micro-mobility Handoff Protocols1
Micro-mobility protocols have been proposed to provide seamless local mobility support. This paper focuses on the performance of the handoff schemes of two candidates for micro-mobility protocols, namely HAWAII and Cellular IP. For each handoff scheme, a simple analytical model is developed for the evaluation of two characteristic performance measures: the packet loss probability during handoff...
متن کاملComparison of IP micromobility protocols
We present a performance comparison of a number of key micro-mobility protocols that have been discussed in the IETF Mobile IP Working Group over the past several years. IP micro-mobility protocols complement Mobile IP by offering fast and seamless handoff control in limited geographical areas and IP paging in support of scalability and power conservation. We show that despite the apparent diff...
متن کاملPerformance Evaluation for Mobility Management Protocols in Cellular IP and Hawaii Mobile Networks
Handover management is one of the most critical issues that mobility management protocols are concerned with. This process becomes even more critical in the case of Micro-mobility where the Mobile host is expected to encounter frequent handovers. Several IP micro-mobility protocols have been proposed to enhance the performance of Mobile IP in an environment with frequent handoffs. In this paper...
متن کاملHandoff Mechanisms in Cellular IP: Enhancement into the Indirect Handoff Mechanism
Mobile IP is now the standard for supporting mobility in IP networks. It provides seamless mobility by hiding the change of IP address when a mobile host moves between IP subnets. Nevertheless, Mobile IP is not designed to support fast handoff and seamless mobility in handoff-intensive environments. Several micro-mobility protocols have been proposed to support host mobility with frequent hando...
متن کاملSupport of micro-mobility in MPLS-based wireless access networks
In this paper, we propose an architecture for the MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching)-based micro-mobility management including label switched path setup, packet forwarding, handoff processing, and paging. In order to prevent packet loss during handoff, we propose two packet recovery mechanisms, namely: buffer time-based packet recovery and medium access control (MAC) layer assisted packet re...
